The collaboration will drive the development of renewable gases, from the conversion of biogas plants to biomethane to the production of e-fuels through the utilization of biogenic CO2
Moeve and ENSO, a group specializing in biomass renewable energy, have partnered to boost industrial decarbonization by developing sustainable alternatives to phase out fossil fuels.
Together, they will deliver clean alternatives to fossil-fuel-powered industrial processes. They are focusing on the chemical, paper, and food and beverage sectors—industries that currently burn coal and natural gas to meet massive demands for steam and thermal energy.
Beyond converting these facilities to advanced biomass models, the alliance unlocks new opportunities in renewable gases. These include upgrading biogas plants to biomethane and potentially developing e-fuels (RFNBOs) using biogenic CO2 from bioenergy facilities. By capturing and utilizing this CO2, the partners can transform it into a valuable new feedstock. In this framework, Moeve could act as a potential offtaker for the newly produced green molecules, perfectly complementing ENSO’s expertise in renewable generation and biogenic carbon capture.
ENSO already has experience with this type of technology integration at its biopower plant in Garray, Soria, which was the first biopower plant in Spain to integrate a system for capturing and upgrading 100% renewable food-grade CO2.
Elías Hernández, CEO of ENSO, said that: “Industry needs solutions that allow it to advance its decarbonization while increasing its competitiveness. We believe both can and should be part of the same equation. Our ability to invest in, build, and operate large-scale bioenergy infrastructure, combined with Moeve’s capabilities and reach, will enable us to turn decarbonization opportunities into real projects that generate savings and long-term value for our customers.”
“This agreement allows us to keep advancing green molecules as a real solution for decarbonizing energy-intensive sectors. Through our ‘Moeve decarbonize’ offering, and building on ENSO’s strong track record, we will provide our industrial customers with a broader range of energy solutions, combining heat, power, and renewable gases in processes where electrification is not always feasible,” said Carlos Aguilera, head of business development at Moeve decarbonize.
