The contract was awarded based on MTAC’s deep-rooted refinery expertise and proven experience

Under punishing winter weather and complex site constraints, deugro USA has successfully delivered more than 6,600 cubic meters of critical equipment for a major industrial project in the central United States for its client Technip Energies.

Beginning in 2023, deugro’s Materials, Turnaround and Construction (MTAC) logistics management division orchestrated nearly 50 individual shipments to a remote industrial facility. The cargo included massive furnace modules, cooling towers, pump skids exceeding 53 cubic meters, and a wide range of containers — from 20’ and 40’ standard and open tops to flat racks.

The contract was awarded based on MTAC’s deep-rooted refinery expertise and proven experience operating within active industrial environments. Every move required strict adherence to the highest safety and industry standards, detailed coordination with live refinery operations, and disciplined compliance with protocols essential for remote project execution.

Acting as the project’s logistics control tower, deugro Houston’s MTAC division synchronized efforts with international deugro offices across Korea, China, Italy, the UK, India, Germany, and Mexico. Cargo moved via a strategic mix of ocean freight, air freight, breakbulk, and domestic road transport to meet tight construction sequencing and delivery milestones.

Most shipments arrived through the Port of Houston before being transloaded onto specialized truck-trailer combinations for final delivery. A preliminary road survey, escort services, and carefully scheduled rest stops were arranged to ensure safe inland transit. In total, trucks traveled approximately 180,000 kilometers to complete the operation.

The project’s remote location presented formidable obstacles. Annual snowfall averages 48 inches, temperatures regularly plunge to 2°F, and high winds, ice, and snowstorms frequently disrupt operations. Avoiding extreme weather windows through meticulous planning was critical to preventing delays, injuries, or cargo damage.

Despite limited carrier access and restricted working hours, MTAC maintained tight coordination with on-site material handling teams to ensure each shipment arrived with a clear and structured offloading plan. Regular stakeholder meetings and weekly tracking updates kept the project aligned, while strategic carrier selection and cargo consolidation delivered significant cost savings.

“Maintaining a consistent on-site presence at both port facilities and the job site, while ensuring transparent communication among all stakeholders, was vital to the project's safe, timely, and efficient execution.

"This was especially important given the constraints posed by limited working hours and occasional shutdowns due to severe weather conditions. Keeping all parties in the communication loop and swiftly escalating for clarification helped minimize cargo holdover times and avoid unnecessary costs,” said Chahid Mouawad, MTAC Logistics Manager at deugro USA.

“Through close collaboration with our international deugro offices, the client, the job site’s material management team, and all project partners, we ensured every shipment arrived safely and on schedule without impacting construction timelines.

"Our team executed the project in full compliance with the highest safety and industry standards, delivering on time and cost-effectively. We’re proud to support this innovative industrial project with tailored logistics solutions that drive progress toward a more sustainable future,” added Gert Jensen, Senior Vice President, Operations, at deugro USA.
