The launch comes as rapid electrification drives demand for power distribution equipment, EV charging infrastructure and battery energy storage systems

Avient Corporation has launched a new range of flame-retardant recycled polyamide grades designed to meet growing fire-safety and sustainability demands across the electrical and electronics industry.

The company will showcase its new Nymax™ FR REC grades at Fakuma 2026, with the materials offering non-halogenated flame-retardant performance while incorporating 42% to 77% post-industrial recycled content.

The launch comes as rapid electrification drives demand for power distribution equipment, EV charging infrastructure and battery energy storage systems. At the same time, manufacturers face tighter restrictions on halogenated flame retardants, growing scrutiny of PFAS and increasing requirements for recycled content and lower product carbon footprints.

Avient said the new grades are aimed at OEMs, component manufacturers and material specifiers seeking to meet these competing demands without compromising fire-safety performance.

Nymax FR REC grades are designed for electrical and electronics applications including switchgear, busway, connectors, appliances, battery energy storage systems and EV charging infrastructure.

The portfolio combines post-industrial recycled polyamide feedstock with non-halogenated flame-retardant chemistry. Avient said the formulations are particularly focused on residential and institutional power distribution systems, where fire-safety requirements and sustainability targets are both becoming increasingly stringent.

“We often hear from customers who feel the tension between uncompromising fire safety and aggressive sustainability targets — and until now, they had to trade one for the other,” said Hermann Fuechter, Senior Manager, Global Strategic Marketing, Specialty Engineered Materials at Avient.

“With Nymax FR REC formulations, I am proud we can offer manufacturers a flame-retardant polyamide that holds a V-0 rating at 0.8 millimeters and a 960-degree glow-wire result, with recycled content built in. This is the kind of progress that helps designers build the power infrastructure the world needs.”

The Nymax FR REC range includes PA6 and PA66 resins with 15% to 40% glass-fiber loading, alongside unfilled grades. Avient said additional colors are being developed in stages.
