Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand) Limited’s Advanced Materials business and Organic Recycling Systems Limited (ORSL) have joined forces to build a sustainable recycling value chain for composite materials, targeting a major challenge facing industries that rely on high-performance materials.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two companies will combine Aditya Birla Group’s global reach and manufacturing expertise with ORSL’s waste-recycling capabilities to develop scalable, commercially viable recycling ecosystems.

Composites, prized for their lightweight properties, strength and durability, are widely used in wind energy, transportation, construction, aerospace and industrial manufacturing. But recycling these materials remains a significant challenge.

Conventional thermoset composites contain a permanently crosslinked resin matrix that cannot be easily broken down, making it difficult to recover and reuse valuable raw materials.

Aditya Birla’s Recyclamine epoxy system is designed to address this problem by enabling the separation and recovery of raw materials during recycling, creating opportunities for their potential reuse.

Under the collaboration, ORSL will lead efforts to integrate and optimise recycling processes for a broad range of composite waste, including conventional epoxy-based materials and composites made using Aditya Birla’s Recyclamine technology. The initiative aims to establish a closed-loop system that recovers valuable resources and reduces waste.

“Circularity starts with designing composites for their next life. With Recyclamine and our collaboration with ORSL, we are developing scalable recycling solutions that turn composite waste into valuable resources and help close the loop.” said Rajesh Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, Advanced Materials, Aditya Birla Group.

Manju Tanwar, Chief Scientist and Head of R&D, ORSL said, “Closing the loop on composites requires solutions that are both scalable and commercially viable. Together, Recyclamine technology and our waste-repurposing expertise are creating new pathways to recover, reuse and unlock value from composite waste.”

The partnership signals a push to make composite recycling more commercially practical by combining resin technology with waste-processing expertise. If successfully scaled, the approach could help recover resources from difficult-to-recycle composites and support a more circular materials economy.
