US electronics recycling giant ERI is expanding into India through a strategic partnership with publicly listed e-waste recycler Eco Recycling Ltd. (Ecoreco), creating a new venture aimed at scaling advanced electronics recycling, IT asset disposition and resource recovery across the country.

 

The joint venture, to operate as “ERI India,” combines ERI’s recycling technologies and circular-economy expertise with Ecoreco’s Indian infrastructure, market knowledge and regional networks. The companies say the venture will focus on keeping electronic materials out of landfills and recovering them for reuse in new products.

The partnership also positions ERI India to tap into India’s growing need to recover valuable materials from discarded electronics, including resources relevant to the country’s push for greater supply security and critical minerals.

The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) International Business Summit in Tokyo, where Shegerian and Soni delivered remarks alongside senior government and industry figures from the United States, India and Japan.

 

Speakers included Dan McCandless, Counselor at the U.S. Embassy Tokyo; Satoshi Yoshida, Director for International Resource Circulation at Japan’s Ministry of the Environment; R. Madhu Sudan, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India in Tokyo; Ahmad Ghahreman, CEO and Founder of Cyclic Materials; Koichiro Nishimura, ITOCHU Manager and Member of the Board of Directors and President of ERI Japan; and Sanjay Mehta, President of MRAI.

 

ERI operates eight locations in the United States and provides services spanning secure data destruction, advanced shredding of end-of-life IT equipment, remarketing, recycling, logistics and regulatory compliance.

 

The company uses proprietary software to provide chain-of-custody tracking for IT assets and has deployed artificial intelligence-powered image recognition and robotic arms to automate the sorting of shredded materials.

 

ERI says it has recycled more than 3 billion pounds of electronic waste in the United States since its founding and has audited ITAD and recycling partners in more than 140 countries.

 

The India venture marks a significant step beyond that partner network: ERI India will be ERI’s first owned and ERI-branded location in India.

 

The new operation is scheduled to begin doing business later in 2026.

 

The partnership comes as India faces mounting volumes of electronic waste and an increasing need to recover materials from discarded technology. By combining local collection and infrastructure with advanced processing and resource-recovery capabilities, ERI and Ecoreco are betting that end-of-life electronics can become an increasingly important source of secondary raw materials.

 

ERI describes its mission as protecting “people, the planet and privacy,” while Ecoreco provides e-waste management, ITAD, secure data destruction, reverse logistics, extended producer responsibility compliance, lithium-ion battery recycling and resource recovery services.

 

Together, the companies aim to establish ERI India as a technology-driven, transparent and internationally compliant platform for turning discarded electronics into recoverable resources—and feeding those materials back into India’s circular economy.
