Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand) Limited’s Advanced Materials business, Upstream Refinery Solution LLP and Breeze Chemicals Private Limited have joined forces to build a sustainable composite recycling value chain, addressing a major challenge facing industries that rely on high-performance materials.

The agreement marks a collaborative push to bridge the gap between composite recycling technology and commercial deployment, with the three companies seeking to establish a more sustainable model for managing composite materials across their lifecycle.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the three companies will combine Aditya Birla Group’s global reach and manufacturing expertise with Upstream and Breeze Chemicals’ capabilities in composite recycling to develop scalable, commercially viable recycling ecosystems.

Composite materials are widely used in wind energy, transportation, construction, aerospace and industrial manufacturing because of their strength, durability and lightweight properties. However, conventional composites rely on resins that permanently harden, making them difficult to recycle at the end of their useful life. Much of this waste consequently ends up in landfills or is incinerated, creating a significant sustainability challenge.

The partnership aims to address this problem through Aditya Birla’s Recyclamine technology, a proprietary epoxy system designed to break down during recycling. The process enables the recovery of valuable reinforcing fibres and resin, offering a pathway to reuse materials that would otherwise be discarded.

The companies will jointly invest in research and development to improve and scale composite recycling technologies, focusing on reducing costs, minimising environmental impact and improving the quality of recovered materials. The collaboration aims to turn composite waste into a valuable resource while advancing commercially viable circular solutions.

“Driving circularity in composites requires innovation across the entire value chain. Recyclamine enables recyclability by design, and together with Upstream and Breeze Chemicals, we are building scalable recycling solutions that recover value from composite waste and advance a more circular future,” said Rajesh Balakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, Advanced Materials, Aditya Birla Group.

Sandeep R. Mehta, Director, Upstream Refinery Solution LLP and Breeze Chemicals Private Limited, said, “Closing the loop on composites requires scalable solutions that connect recycling with real-world applications. By combining Recyclamine technology with our waste-repurposing expertise, we are developing commercially viable pathways to recover value from composite waste and build a more circular industry.”
