Introduction

Gujarat Chem & PetChem Conference 2026 is a step towards exploring the current opportunities in the chemicals and petrochemicals sectors in the state and how these can be translated into reality. The theme of the event is “Optimizing Plant Operations for Efficiency and Sustainability”. The conference aims to bring around 500 industry professionals including 100 Manufacturing Heads/Plant Heads from Gujarat and pan India.

The objective is to understand the fundamental issues regarding the operation of the plants and come out with their solutions through various brainstorming sessions and presentations in order to make Gujarat the most important driver to Indian chemicals and petrochemicals industry

Overview

Gujarat's chemicals and petrochemicals sectors are well-positioned for strong and sustained growth in coming years. The combination of its established industrial base, targeted government incentives, robust infrastructure, and growing domestic and international demand creates a favorable environment. The industry's shift toward specialty chemicals and sustainable practices will be key differentiators.

The industry is embracing Industry 4.0 technologies, including automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain for process optimization, efficiency, and supply chain management.

Petrochemical companies are expected to pursue both horizontal and vertical integration to optimize operations. This includes sharing refinery streams and integrating downstream units to achieve cost efficiencies.

While strong, the infrastructure still has bottlenecks related to poor port connectivity and high logistics costs. Strategic investments, potentially through public-private partnerships, are needed to further enhance cost competitiveness.

The industry continues to face a shortage of highly skilled professionals and specialized chemical engineers. Companies will need to collaborate with academic institutions and leverage government skilling programs to address this.

Overall, the outlook for 2026 remains highly positive. While some structural challenges persist, Gujarat's chemicals and petrochemicals sectors are on a solid growth trajectory, underpinned by strategic investments, strong government support, and a rising focus on sustainability and technology.
