Nano One advances 'Canada DevCo' project for localized LFP supply chain

Nano One is advancing its first Development Company as part of its strategy to deploy LFP cathode production in Canada

Nano One Materials Corp, a process technology company specializing in lithium-ion battery cathode active materials, is moving forward with its first Development Company (Canada DevCo). This initiative is a key part of its strategy to establish lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode production in Canada.

The company has begun a site evaluation study to assess potential locations for a proposed 25 ktpa cathode production facility, with a potential expansion to up to 100 ktpa of production capacity.

This project will help Nano One serve the ESS, EV, and defence industries in Canada and worldwide. The study focuses on finding the best locations by looking at local utilities, infrastructure, and permit requirements. Securing these site options will help Nano One in its current talks with potential customers and partners.

“There is increasing market pull from customers for the industry to deliver LFP cathode active materials from a regionally focused and resilient supply chain. LFP cathode is a critical material needed in the production of lithium batteries for ESS, EV and defence applications. Discussions with potential strategic partners and customers for Canada DevCo are progressing.”

Canada’s competitive industrial power rates and low-carbon electricity grid—combined with regional access to critical raw materials—strongly position Nano One to establish its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode production within the country. To accelerate this expansion, the Canada DevCo Project will leverage operational insights from the existing Candiac Facility, utilizing its footprint to drive technical development, workforce training, and full operational readiness for future production hubs.

This initiative aligns Nano One with Canada’s automotive, defence, and critical minerals strategies. The nation's Critical Minerals List explicitly recognizes the importance of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and its raw feedstocks. By linking Canadian upstream resources and midstream processing directly to downstream cell manufacturing, the DevCo Project serves key sectors like Energy Storage Systems (ESS), Electric Vehicles (EVs), and defence. Ultimately, this project advances a lower-carbon economy by helping Canada capture more value from its mineral wealth, build resilient industrial capacity, and establish a secure, regionalized supply chain.

Early-stage development is underway for the standardized 25,000-tonne-per-year plant design, utilizing the One-Pot LFP CAM Package. Backed in part by NRCan funding (announced April 8, 2026), the project runs alongside ongoing customer qualification at the Candiac site.

The Canada DevCo advances the global LFP strategy outlined in Nano One’s August 26, 2026 news release, with each project intended to be financed on its own merits through a combination of government and private investment. The Company expects to provide further updates as site evaluation, supply chain qualification and partner discussions progress.
