Zeon invests in battery technology company Coreshell

Aims to solve degradation issue and enable better performance for EV

  • By ICN Bureau | April 05, 2024

Zeon Corporation, through its venture capital arm Zeon Ventures, has invested in Coreshell Technologies, a US startup arming the electric vehicle industry with the most affordable, highest performing batteries in the world by unlocking their true capacity. Along with the investment, Zeon will partner with Coreshell in commercializing its products.

The nano-layer coating material developed by Coreshell is applied to the surface of positive and negative electrodes that come into contact with the electrolyte. This increases both the capacity and the heat resistance of lithium-ion batteries, resulting in improved safety. The coating material is also expected to reduce costs, as the process by which it is applied can be incorporated without major modifications into the current manufacturing process.

Zeon’s accumulated electrode binder technology will be combined with Coreshell’s technology to generate synergies that create new value. Zeon will propose electrode designs suitable for Coreshell’s coating materials and improvements for raising battery functionality by drawing upon its evaluation and analysis technologies for lithium-ion batteries.

Zeon is committed to contributing to a sustainable society and providing indispensable products and services by investing in and nurturing startups in four key areas (healthcare and life sciences, CASE and MaaS, telecommunications (5G/6G), and energy conservation) and ultimately realizing a sustainable Earth and safe and comfortable life for people.
