ADAMA launches Actagon herbicide in India as resistance puts wheat weed control under pressure

Crop protection major ADAMA Ltd. has launched Actagon, a pre-emergent herbicide for wheat growers in India, targeting growing weed-management challenges, particularly resistance in Phalaris minor.
The ready-mix liquid formulation combines pyroxasulfone and metribuzin in a single product, eliminating the need for on-farm tank mixing and potentially reducing the number of herbicide applications required during the wheat season.
Actagon is designed for pre-emergence use and aims to provide long-lasting control of Phalaris minor as well as other key grass and broadleaf weeds. ADAMA said the dual-mode formulation is also intended to support resistance-management efforts.
The company will initially focus on major wheat-growing states, particularly Punjab and Haryana, where pressure from Phalaris minor remains high and farmers are seeking reliable weed-control options.
“Resistance in Phalaris minor is making weed management increasingly challenging for wheat growers in India,” said Germain Boulay, Head of Global Herbicides at ADAMA. “With Actagon, we are introducing a simple, reliable pre-emergence solution that helps improve weed control, reduce operational complexity, and support long-term field productivity.”
According to ADAMA, field trials conducted across major wheat-growing regions in India showed strong residual weed control under high Phalaris minor pressure. The trials also indicated improved crop performance following a single pre-emergence application.
The company said the ready-mix formulation is aimed at simplifying field operations while giving wheat growers an additional tool to manage difficult weed populations and resistance.
