India’s Vision 2034 for the chemicals sector is aimed at exploring opportunities to improve domestic production, reduce imports, and attract investments in the sector. Agrochemicals, along with -- dyes and pigments, cosmetics and personal care, and food ingredient chemicals, are slated to contribute 80 per cent of the exports under the specialty chemicals segment.

India’s agrochemical exports reached a new high of US $5.4 billion for the financial year 2022-23 from US $4.9 billion in 2021-22. The growth has been a whopping 108% from 2017-18 when India exported US $2.6 billion worth of agrochemicals. With the government talking about fast-tracking all agrochemical projects, this growth is here to stay and may grow to US $10 billion in the next 3-4 years.

The changing agricultural landscape in the country presents new opportunities for manufacturers, formulators, and suppliers. According to a report, the industry’s revenues are estimated to grow 15-17% in 2023 and 10-12% in 2024, driven by strong exports and stable domestic demand.

Experts in the industry feel that this is the right time for the Indian agrochemical industry to formulate a proper strategy, implement the strategy in a time bound manner and expand its reach to every nook and corner in India as well as establish India as a major agrochemical manufacturer in the global market.

The session will discuss various dimensions of strategy to make India a global agrochemical player on the world map.
