AksharChem (India) Ltd. has approached the Ministry of Environment and Forest for environmental clearance to a proposed expansion capacity of its unit at Indrad in Gujarat’s Mehsana district.

AksharChem is currently producing 500 MTPM of vinyl sulphone with HCl, sulphuric acid and glauber salt as by products.

It had earlier also approached the Ministry which had sought some additional information.

The company said that it is engaged in handling and storage of various hazardous materials including ethylene oxide.

\"At the plant, two Limpet coil type storage tanks having water capacity of 10 KL each are installed. Continuous cooling by circulation of chilled water is in place to maintain safe temperature below 12 degree Celsius. At the plant, ethylene oxide is being transported from Hazira in Surat district through 5 KL capacity tankers,\" it said.

According to the company, it is planning to increase 30 per cent production capacity with process modification without adding any new machinery.

“There will be no increase in any process or flue gas emission source and 10 per cent of waste water will be increased which finally recycle or achieve zero discharge after required treatment,” it said.
