Avantium N.V. has successfully manufactured its first batch of furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) at its FDCA flagship plant in Delfzijl. This landmark achievement represents a major milestone, as the Delfzijl facility is the world's first commercial-scale plant dedicated to producing FDCA, a crucial building block for renewable and circular polymer materials.

It paves the way for ramping up toward commercial sales, anticipated to start at the end of 2026. 

The production of the first FDCA batches represents an important step in validating Avantium's proprietary FDCA technology under commercial operating conditions. The company is now pivoting toward a disciplined product qualification and ramp-up program, ensuring all output meets customer specifications as it transitions from batch to continuous operations.

A successful launch and qualification phase will validate Avantium's YXY Technology at a commercial scale for producing FDCA and PEF, while accelerating global licensing talks with potential partners. Avantium still anticipates that reaching full production capacity will take 12 to 24 months after the plant begins operations.
