Epsilon Carbon has commissioned a 300,000-tonnes-per-annum (TPA) Specialty Carbon facility at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, doubling its total Specialty Carbon capacity to 600,000 TPA and strengthening its position in India’s rapidly expanding specialty carbon industry.
The expansion places Epsilon Carbon among the country’s largest specialty carbon producers and adds capacity aimed at serving both domestic industries and global customers.
Built around Industry 4.0 principles, the new facility integrates advanced process controls, digital automation and intelligent manufacturing systems to improve product consistency, operational efficiency and supply reliability.
The plant will produce Coal Tar Pitch, Crude and Refined Naphthalene, Anthracene Oil, Wash Oil, Creosote Oil and other value-added carbon derivatives. These materials are critical to a wide range of sectors, including aluminium, graphite, steel, tyres, paints and dyes, pharmaceuticals, construction chemicals and advanced materials.

The Vijayanagar commissioning is a key step in Epsilon Carbon’s broader expansion plans. The company is also developing an Integrated Carbon Complex at Jharsuguda, Odisha, which is expected to take its Specialty Carbon capacity to 1 million TPA by 2029 and position Epsilon Carbon among the world’s largest integrated specialty carbon manufacturers.
Sustainability is built into the Vijayanagar complex. The facility operates on a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system, enabling 100% of treated wastewater to be reused within the plant. Its 17 MW captive power plant, fuelled by recovered waste gases, meets the complex’s entire energy requirement while reducing its carbon footprint.
Epsilon Carbon’s responsible-manufacturing credentials include Responsible Care certification, an EcoVadis Silver Rating and SA8000 certification, reflecting its stated commitments to health and safety, environmental stewardship, ethical business practices and social accountability.
