Production has officially begun at the new hydrogen peroxide megaplant operated by Fuhua and licensed by Evonik in Leshan, Sichuan Province, marking a major expansion of industrial-grade H₂O₂ capacity in the region.
The facility, which has an annual production capacity of 200 kilotons, started operations on June 18, 2026, and achieved in-specification production within just a few days. The plant is now ready to supply the Chinese regional market while providing hydrogen peroxide feedstock to the partners’ joint venture, Evonik Fuhua New Materials, for further purification into specialty grades.
The large-scale project was completed just 2.5 years after Fuhua and Evonik signed their licensing agreement in November 2023. Evonik contributed its proprietary hydrogen peroxide technology, key process equipment, catalysts, and working solution, while technical teams from China, Germany, and the United States supported engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
Michael Träxler, head of Evonik’s Active Oxygens business line, stated: “The successful startup of this plant demonstrates our ability to support customers throughout the entire project lifecycle, from licensing and engineering to commissioning and production. Completing a facility of this scale within the planned timeline and budget is an achievement to be proud of. It underscores that the collaboration between Evonik and Fuhua is a successful formula.”
Fuhua Chairman Zhang Hua highlighted the strategic importance of the milestone, saying: “This startup represents an important milestone for Fuhua and validates the excellent collaboration between our companies. By combining Fuhua’s local knowledge and networks with Evonik’s leading technology and operational expertise, we are now ready to serve the growing demand for H₂O₂ in China and have created a strong foundation for future growth.”
The new plant will serve two key markets: supplying industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide to commercial customers while supporting Evonik Fuhua New Materials’ production of specialty-grade H₂O₂. The purified products will target high-demand applications including electronics manufacturing and food safety, strengthening the companies’ position in China’s growing advanced materials sector.
