Gulbrandsen proposes expansion of Gujarat unit

Gulbrandsen Chemicals Pvt Ltd has proposed to expand its organometallic products unit at Mujpur in Gujarat\'s Vadodara district.

Gulbrandsen Chemicals Pvt Ltd has proposed to expand its organometallic products unit at Mujpur in Gujarat\'s Vadodara district.

In its presentation before the expert committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, the company said that it also intends to add some new products. Organometallic compounds are used as catalysts in the process chemical industry.

The company said the proposed expansion will be carried out in the existing premises only and hence no additional land will be acquired for the proposed expansion.

Also, the industrial unit is located in GIDC Estate and hence there is no requirement to conduct public hearing for the proposed expansion project.

The proposed expansion cost is Rs 50 crore. Of the total plot area, green belt area exists in 14163 sq m and another 7000 sq m is proposed to be included for greenbelt development.

Gulbrandsen said it intends to produce 54536.04 MTPA of Organometallic compounds, 20000 MTPA of polyethylene wax, 25 MTPA of R&D products/Organometallic compounds/organic and inorganic chemicals, 65088 MTPA of aluminium chloride and 19470 MTPA of Ethyl Iodide, all totaling 159119.04 MTPA.

The company said due to the proposed expansion, no additional effluent will be discharged to common effluent treatment plant.

\"Also no adverse impact on surface or groundwater is envisaged due to the proposed project,\" it said.

On air pollution control measures, the company said all requisite devices are provided to bring down the emission levels with the permissible limit. Also adequate stack height is provided for flue gas stacks while work zone monitoring
is carried out at different levels.

There are no reserved forests, sanctuaries or archaeological sites in the vicinity of the unit. The project also involves no rehabilitation or resettlement of local people.

The company said the project will generate additional employment.
