Kandla Formalin Ltd. has proposed to set up a new plant at Vasna in Gujarat\'s
Ahmedabad district at a cost of Rs 46 crore.

In its presentation to the Ministry of Environment and Forest for environmental
clearance, the company said it will produce 70000 TPA of Formaldehyde, 3000 TPA of
Hexamine, 18000 TPA of Methylal and 5000 TPA of Moulding powder. The raw materials
required are 105 TPD of Formaldehyde, 55 TPD of Methanol and 5.25 TPD of Ammonia.

The total land area is 9.01 hectares of which 3 hectares is for greenbelt
development. The total power requirement of the unit will be 200 HP.

The company said effluents from washings, cooling towers and boiler bow downs
shall be treated in primary treatment system. Primary treatment consists of
equalisation and neutralisation followed by sand filtration. The treated effluent
shall be used for floor washings. Domestic effluent shall be sent to septic tank
followed by soak pit.

Eight sampling stations have been selected within the study area as per the
guidelines of the Environment Ministry and Central Pollution Control Board based
on predominant wind direction, upwind direction, crosswind direction, rural area
representation and urban area representation.

Parameters like PM2.5, PM10, SO2 and NOx are analysed twice in a week for each
station throughout the study period. Micrometeorological data like wind speed,
wind direction, relative humidity, temperature and rainfall is collected by using
an automatic weather station.

The work for collection of baseline data for the study area is being carried out
as per the draft TOR during March-May 2012 considering the following aspects:

1. To avoid monsoon during June-September 2012
2. To expedite the environmental clearance process for the proposed project
3. To save time for the project implementation.
