Konar Organics has approached the Ministry of Environment and Forests for environmental clearance to its proposed unit at Alatturu in Andhra Pradesh\'s Chittoor district for manufacturing bulk drugs and intermediates.
In its presentation to the Ministry for environmental clearance, the company said that it intends to manufacture 97 TPM of bulk drugs and their intermediates in four units.
The total land acquired for the unit is 24 acres. The company said greenery will be maintained as per advice of horticulturists in an area not less than 33 per cent of the land around the plant and also at unused vacant land to mitigate air pollution and attenuate noise pollution.
“The purpose of a greenbelt around the plant site is to capture the fugitive emission, attenuate the noise generated and improve the aesthetics. A wide range of plant species will be planted in and around the premises to help capture the fugitive emission and noise levels from the plant premises,” it said.
The total cost of the project is Rs 750 lakh. Of this Rs 250 lakh has been earmarked for environmental protection measures including Rs 10 lakh for greenbelt development.
The company said the entire effluent generated from process and wash, DM plant, R&D and cooling tower will be evaporated in multiple effect evaporator within the premises. The boiler blow down water will be used for sprinkling on ash while domestic water will be sent to septic tank.
In its presentation, the company said there will not be any major potential for negative impact on the environment due to the proposed project. There are no historical places, defence installations, archaeological sites, wildlife sanctuaries or national parks and ecologically-sensitive areas within 10 km of the project site.
The company also said it will adopt all safety and hazard identification measures besides a strong disaster management policy.
