Lubrizol unleashes breakthrough LED tech to transform global CPVC production

The LED chlorination system marks a significant shift in how CPVC resin is produced

  • By ICN Bureau | February 28, 2026
Lubrizol Corporation has unveiled a major breakthrough in CPVC manufacturing, installing next-generation LED reactor technology at its Louisville, Kentucky plant — a move the company says will redefine performance standards and boost global supply flexibility.

The LED chlorination system marks a significant shift in how CPVC resin is produced, delivering sharper thermal stability, stronger processing efficiency and measurable sustainability gains. The advancement reinforces Lubrizol’s leadership in technical resins while positioning the company to respond faster to rising global demand.

Thermal stability has long been the backbone of high-performance CPVC resin. But as industry demands intensify, manufacturers have faced mounting pressure to push performance further. Lubrizol’s LED upgrade answers that challenge head-on. The new process significantly improves thermal stability and energy efficiency, driving more sustainable production while unlocking operational advantages for customers.

Among the benefits: longer production runs with less downtime, greater formulation flexibility and improved color performance — key factors in high-specification applications.

"This technology represents a pivotal moment for our CPVC business," said Griffin Rial, Vice President, Lubrizol TempRite.

"LED chlorination allows us to deliver meaningful performance improvements-greater thermal stability, faster customer process times, and improved sustainability-while enabling new levels of operational flexibility across our global manufacturing network. The Louisville installation will bring lasting benefits to our customers and position Lubrizol for continued leadership in the CPVC industry."

The Louisville facility is the company’s first to implement LED chlorination in CPVC resin production. With the ability to flex between accelerating output or further enhancing product stability as market conditions evolve, Lubrizol gains a powerful new lever to support growth in demanding applications worldwide.

The installation also sets the stage for broader global adoption of LED chlorination technology across Lubrizol’s CPVC manufacturing footprint — signaling that this Kentucky milestone may be just the beginning.
