The Indian Chemical Society was founded by the great son of India, Sir Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on 9th May 1924. The Society is a premier Scientific Society of India, was founded as National Forum for the community of chemists and members of allied disciplines in British India. The driving force behind its establishment was the nationalistic spirit prevailing in India under British rule by Dr. J. N. Mukherjee; Dr. J. C. Ghosh, and Dr. S. S. Bhatnagar. Acharya P. C. Ray was the first academic entrepreneur having established the Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals in 1901, which is now a Government PSU and was known for the manufacture of hydroxychloroquine which was in the limelight during the covid pandemic. It is our plea to the government to declare August 2, the birthday of Acharya as the National Science Day.
