Sumitomo Chemical gets approval for fungicide registration in U.S. and Canada

These are the first registrations of inpyrfluxam and inpyrfluxam products outside Japan.

Sumitomo Chemical has received U.S. and Canadian regulatory approval for the registrations of its new fungicide, INDIFLIN (inpyrfluxam), and two products utilizing this new fungicide as an active ingredient. These are the first registrations of inpyrfluxam and inpyrfluxam products outside Japan.

INDIFLIN, the trademark name for inpyrfluxam, is a novel fungicide active ingredient that Sumitomo Chemical discovered as part of its B2020 initiative – its pipeline of active ingredients and products to be submitted for registration in major markets by 2020. INDIFLIN belongs to a class of fungicides known as succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors (SDHI), which inhibit the energy production process of pathogenic fungi. With its superb fungicidal action, good leaf penetration, and systemic activity, INDIFLIN is expected to offer a powerful new option for fungal disease control. In-house and external evaluations have already demonstrated INDIFLIN's high efficacy against a broad spectrum of plant diseases, including sheath blight on rice, Asian soybean rust on soybeans, rust on cereals, scab on apples, and root rot and foliar blight on sugar beets. In March 2020, Sumitomo Chemical launched KANAME Flowable in Japan, a new INDIFLIN product for horticultural use.

In addition to the active ingredient registration, Sumitomo Chemical has received U.S. and Canadian approval for the registrations of two INDIFLIN products: ExcaliaTM for foliar use; and ZelteraTM for seed treatment use. Both products are due to be launched in October 2020 by Valent U.S.A. LLC, a U.S. subsidiary of Sumitomo Chemical. New INDIFLIN products are also under review for registration by the regulatory authorities of Argentina, the European Union, and Brazil, the world’s largest crop protection market.

The company expects that new INDIFLIN products will become future blockbuster fungicides for Sumitomo Chemical and its group companies, driving the growth of their agro-solutions businesses.
