Tata Chemicals bags CII awards for its sustainable initiatives

Company has been awarded for its projects on Limestone Undersize Reduction and Improve Effluent Solid Utilisation.

Tata Chemicals, a leading sustainable and science-led chemistry solutions company, has been conferred with the 3rd position and two Gold level awards for its ‘Limestone Undersize Reduction’ and ‘Improve Effluent Solid Utilisation’ project case studies at the 14th edition of the CII National Six Sigma Competition 2020. This recognises Tata Chemicals’ efforts and commitment towards setting a clear path for long term sustainability and maximising stakeholder value through its projects.
 
This year’s competition comprised of two sectors, manufacturing and services. Under manufacturing, Tata Chemicals stood third for ‘Limestone Undersize Reduction’ project case study, in the ‘Improvement projects in Manufacturing and Operations’ category and also bagged the gold level award. This project enables achieving the lowest variable cost of soda ash through raw material undersize reduction. Adding another feather to its cap, Tata Chemicals’ project case study titled ‘Improve Effluent Solid Utilisation’, focused on improvement in waste to wealth conversion through increased effluent solid utilisation, also won the gold level recognition. 
 
Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Richard Lobo, Head – Innovation and CQH (Business Excellence), Tata Chemicals, said, “We are honoured to have received this coveted recognition from CII for our projects. In the previous years, Tata Chemicals has won the prestigious CII- ITC Sustainability Trophy for its exemplary policies, practices and results. In addition to that, TCL – Mithapur plant also won the ‘commendation certificate for significant achievement’ for independent units.  
 
In line with the Tata Group’s vision, sustainability has been at the core of Tata Chemicals’ business operations. Its sustainability strategy is underlined by its corporate strategy which aims to integrate sustainability across business, having in place robust systems and processes that focus on operational efficiencies and business excellence. 
 
The Six Sigma National Competition, established by CII in 2007 recognises companies that have successfully adopted and implemented the Six Sigma techniques resulting in improvement in processes. An annual conference, the national competition invites organizations to participate and present successful case studies that are evaluated by an eminent Jury.
 
Recently, Tata Chemicals has been ranked 3rd amongst the Indian corporates for its sustainability and CSR practice. The 7th Responsible Business Rankings, are based on the study carried out by Futurescape that uses the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) framework.
