Global chemicals giant BASF has struck a new strategic alliance with Sevnce Robotics, signalling a sharper push to fuse advanced robotics with the chemical industry’s next phase of digital and sustainable transformation.
The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating automation, safety, and intelligent operations across chemical production environments—areas where precision and risk management are critical.
At the heart of the partnership is a plan to deploy Sevnce Robotics’ intelligent inspection and robotic solutions across BASF sites. The move is designed to fast-track the industry’s shift toward digitalization, with a strong emphasis on safety-critical applications where robotics can reduce human exposure to hazardous conditions.
But the collaboration goes beyond deployment. BASF and Sevnce Robotics will also co-develop next-generation materials tailored for robotics. Drawing on BASF’s expertise in high-performance materials—including Engineering Plastics, Thermoplastic Polyurethanes, and Polyurethane Systems—the companies will work on lightweight, high-efficiency designs for quadruped and humanoid robots. The goal: boost performance, durability, and adaptability while driving continuous product innovation.
“We are greatly encouraged by the vibrant development of China’s smart manufacturing industry,” said Jeffrey Lou, Chairman and President of BASF Greater China.
“BASF looks forward to deepening strategic cooperation with Sevnce Robotics, focusing on digital transformation and safe production scenarios in the chemical industry. We will also drive material innovation for core robotic components, advancing robotic solutions toward enhanced safety, lightweight design, intelligence and customization, while continuously expanding their application scope and market reach.”
For Sevnce Robotics, the agreement marks a major scaling opportunity—one that could see its technologies rolled out across BASF’s global footprint.
Zhu Dong, Chairman of Sevnce Robotics stated,“We are deeply honored to have established a strategic partnership with BASF, a global leader in the chemical industry. This signing marks a new phase in our relationship. Moving forward, we will promote the large-scale application of Sevnce Robotics intelligent inspection solutions across BASF’s global sites.
"Leveraging the strengths of Sevnce Robotics products and technical services, and combining with BASF's material innovation capabilities, we aim to explore the integration of new materials and intelligent devices, focusing on lightweight and biomimetic design of robots. Together, we will empower the high-quality upgrading of industries.”
As industries worldwide race to modernize, the BASF–Sevnce tie-up underscores a growing trend: the convergence of materials science and robotics as a cornerstone of safer, smarter manufacturing.
