American speciality materials major PPG has unveiled a new digital platform aimed at transforming how shipowners manage one of their most persistent cost challenges.

The company announced the launch of PPG InsightsNav, an analytics tool designed to help marine operators analyze and optimize their seastock coatings purchasing data—an area long plagued by fragmented records and limited visibility.

For years, shipowners have struggled to make strategic decisions due to inconsistent historical data, often resulting in inefficiencies and unnecessary spending. PPG says its new platform directly tackles that issue by standardizing coatings data into a clear, accessible format that evolves as new information is added.

The result: sharper decision-making and tangible cost savings.

By surfacing patterns and opportunities—such as smarter port selection and consolidating orders—PPG InsightsNav enables operators to streamline procurement and reduce expenses across fleets.

“Think of the PPG InsightsNav platform like a budgeting app for marine operators,” said Steven Wolfendale, PPG global product owner, digital and AI, Protective and Marine Coatings. “It allows ship owners and operators to analyze their own data independently and forecast their future needs. Providing clear insight into costs helps them make more informed spending decisions, which help save money on their seastock coatings.”

Designed for teams across procurement and technical management, the platform delivers a suite of tools focused on financial clarity and operational efficiency. Users gain a full view of fleet-wide seastock spending, predictive forecasting based on historical trends, and real-time dashboards that update as new data comes in.

The platform also flags inefficiencies, helping companies refine maintenance and purchasing strategies while identifying immediate savings opportunities.

Accessible globally through a secure interface, PPG InsightsNav is available to marine customers worldwide—marking a significant step in the company’s push toward data-driven maritime operations.

“The PPG InsightsNav platform gives customers clear access to their own data,” said Ewout Bosman, PPG seastock segment director, Protective and Marine Coatings. “By combining spend visibility with actionable insights, we’re helping shipowners and operators make more informed decisions that support both operational efficiency and long-term cost management.”
