The partnership seeks to create agentic AI-powered tools designed to enhance the capabilities of technical experts and decision-makers
Global energy technology leader SLB has inked a strategic collaboration with energy giant Shell aimed at developing cutting-edge digital and AI solutions to boost performance and efficiency across upstream operations—for both companies and the wider industry.
The partnership seeks to create agentic AI-powered tools designed to enhance the capabilities of technical experts and decision-makers. By leveraging SLB’s Lumi data and AI platform, the companies aim to build an open data and AI infrastructure that unifies workflows across subsurface, well construction, and production in a secure digital environment.
“The energy industry is being reshaped by digital and AI,” said Rakesh Jaggi, president of SLB’s digital business. “Working with industry leaders like Shell enables us to accelerate development of advanced digital and agentic AI solutions that are changing how our industry works through automation and autonomy to generate value right across upstream, from planning through operations.”
The collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between SLB and Shell. Earlier this year, SLB announced a technical partnership to deploy its Petrel subsurface software across Shell’s global assets, standardizing infrastructure and workflows while accelerating scalable digital solutions to improve operational cost efficiencies.
The partnership is expected to inform Shell’s digital strategy and technology roadmap, foster mutual learning to support Shell’s broader digital transformation, and drive the creation of commercially viable digital solutions that could be applied industry-wide.
