INOX India welcomes PM Modi’s visit to ITER Project at Cadarache, France

ITER is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world today

INOX India is proud to be associated with the International Fusion Research Project - ITER, being built at Cadarache, France.

As one of the select Indian companies, providing mission-critical equipment and significantly important solutions, INOX India has demonstrated tremendous cryo-scientific capabilities at this project of huge global relevance, aiming to make the future greener.

Creating fusion energy requires extremely hot plasma to be contained within strong magnetic fields. To do this, we use powerful superconducting magnets that need to be kept very cold. INOX India built special cryogenic helium multi process transfer lines to keep these magnets cold, using liquid helium. We designed, built, and installed this cryogenic system with great care to ensure they work perfectly.

Due to our capabilities demonstrated, ITER assigned us another critical task of modifying thermal shields made by a Korean supplier to fit perfectly inside the Vacuum Vessel. We remade, tested, and delivered the shields on time, meeting ITER's strict requirements.

ITER is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world today, aimed to provide cheaper and inexhaustible energy to the whole world. It is the world's largest fusion experiment, and aims to replicate the Sun's energy-generating process here on Earth with Fusion Energy. ITER's goal is to use 50 MW of heating power to generate 500 MW of fusion power, a tenfold increase, using only a few grams of Hydrogen as fuel.

ITER, a project undertaken by seven partners—China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, and the United States—is one of the largest experimental efforts underway in the south of France at Cadarache. In total, 35 countries are involved in the project, representing about 85% of the world’s GDP. The aim of ITER is to demonstrate nuclear fusion as a clean, green source of unlimited energy. India’s contribution to ITER includes the delivery of nine in-kind packages, each involving the first-of-its-kind development of materials, technologies, and quality standards to meet the stringent nuclear safety norms of the French regulatory board while ensuring the components function reliably throughout the project's lifetime.

The Department of Atomic Energy, ITER’s Director General, and INOX India collaborated to conclude the project. The ITER project is expected to go a long way in making an infinite amount of energy available to users through atomic fusion.

Siddharth Jain, Executive Director, INOX India said, "We're proud to have successfully delivered critical equipment to the ITER Project, demonstrating India's capabilities in complex cryo-scientific endeavors. The Prime Minister's visit to the ITER site, coinciding with this achievement, is a testament to our contributions and a moment of pride for 1.4 billion Indians. We wish more ‘fusion power’ to our beloved Prime Minister."
