Modi lays foundation stone for 4 projects being developed by Torrent Group in UP

A pilot green hydrogen production facility in Gorakhpur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone for four projects entailing an investment of approx. Rs. 25,000 crores being developed by Torrent Power in Uttar Pradesh.

The ground-breaking of Torrent Group's 4 projects was part of the country's largest Ground Breaking Ceremony (GBC) 4.0, held at Lucknow on Monday. Modi laid the foundation stone for over 14,000 projects across different sectors.

The projects were initiated in the presence of Governor of UP, Anandiben Patel; Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath; Minister of Defence, Government of India, Rajnath Singh and other senior ministers and officials of the Government of UP.

The brief details of the projects planned to be developed by Torrent Power in UP are:

- 2 Pumped Storage Hydro projects, with a total capacity of 4150 MWs in Sonbhadra district,

- A solar power plant with a capacity of 150 MWs in Lalitpur district (Bundelkhkand region of UP) and

- A pilot green hydrogen production facility in Gorakhpur, where green hydrogen will be produced and blended with the gas distribution network being built by Torrent Gas. This will be one of the largest green hydrogen and natural gas blending projects in the country.

The four projects are expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for about 8,000 people in the State. Torrent Group had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State of Uttar Pradesh for these projects during the UP Global Investors Summit 2023 (UPGIS 2023) held in February 2023.
