thyssenkrupp nucera has successfully commissioned a major Chlor-Alkali plant for Kutch Chemical India Limited at Padana in Gujarat, marking a significant addition to India's chemical manufacturing capacity.

With an annual production capacity of 220,000 metric tons of caustic soda (NaOH), the facility ranks among the country's largest single-train Chlor-Alkali plants. Designed to produce up to 675 metric tons per day of 100% NaOH, the plant is powered by thyssenkrupp nucera's latest BM Generation 6+ technology.

The commissioning marks a major milestone for Kutch Chemical, which will use the caustic soda and chlorine produced at the facility for its own manufacturing operations as well as sales in the domestic market. The new capacity is expected to strengthen the company's production capabilities and expand its supply to India's chemical industry.

thyssenkrupp nucera delivered engineering services, proprietary technology and equipment for the project, besides providing support during start-up and commissioning. The plant features five electrolyzers based on the company's BM Generation 6+ technology.

Each unit has a production capacity of up to 135 metric tons per day of 100% NaOH, making it the highest-capacity single electrolyzer currently installed in India. Operations have now successfully commenced.

“This project highlights the importance of efficient and reliable Chlor-Alkali technology for customers expanding their production capacities,” said Kiran Joseph, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera India.

“By selecting our latest BM Generation 6+ technology, Kutch Chemical is building on a technology platform designed to further improve the efficiency and reliability of Chlor-Alkali production. We are proud to contribute to the successful realization of this important expansion project.”

Kutch Chemical Industries Limited, part of the Goyal Group of Industries, manufactures and exports specialty and bulk chemicals. Its integrated chemical complex in Gujarat produces a range of products, including chlorination, nitration and dye intermediates.

The commissioning also underscores a longstanding partnership between the two companies, which began in 2017. Since the installation of Kutch Chemical's initial Chlor-Alkali plant, thyssenkrupp nucera has continued to support capacity expansions in line with the company's growth strategy.

“thyssenkrupp nucera combines proven Chlor-Alkali technology with extensive project execution expertise, making the company a trusted partner for our expansion plans,” said Jai Prakash Goyal, Whole-time Director at Kutch Chemical India.

“The successful commissioning of this plant is an important step for Kutch Chemical and supports our continued growth in the Indian market. We are pleased to build on our longstanding cooperation.”
