Yokogawa Corporation of America, a subsidiary of Japan's Yokogawa Electric Corporation, has been chosen as the Main Automation Contractor (MAC) for LNG Canada Phase 2 in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada.

The contract was awarded by the JGC Fluor BC LNG II Joint Venture (JFJV2)—a partnership between JGC Corporation and Fluor Corporation—which manages the engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning for the expansion project.

Phase 1 of the LNG Canada export facility began producing LNG in June 2025, with facility handover completed in October 2025. Designated by the Government of Canada as a “Project of National Significance,” Phase 2 represents one of the largest private-sector investments in Canada and is expected to further strengthen Canada’s role as an LNG exporter and trusted energy supplier to the global market.

The Phase 2 expansion project will add two new LNG processing units, known as Trains 3 and 4, along with an additional LNG storage tank, a condensate tank, a loading berth, and expanded utility and process systems. The project will double the facility’s production capacity from 14 to 28 million tons per annum.

As the MAC, Yokogawa’s scope includes the CENTUM VP integrated production control system and the ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system, as well as fire and gas systems, process historians, operator training simulators, asset management solutions, advanced applications, cybersecurity infrastructure, and industrial networks.

The integrated automation systems will monitor and control Trains 3 and 4, along with their associated utilities and common infrastructure. By expanding the existing Phase 1 Yokogawa automation platform, Phase 2 will leverage established system architectures, control philosophies, and engineering standards. This continuity ensures facility-wide consistency, streamlines project execution, and minimizes integration risks.

“Yokogawa is proud to have been selected as the Main Automation Contractor for LNG Canada Phase 2 and to continue our involvement in this important energy development project,” said Koji Nakaoka, Yokogawa Electric executive vice president & executive officer and head of the company's Energy & Sustainability Business Headquarters. “Building on the automation platform established during Phase 1 gives us an important foundation for supporting the next stage of the project. We look forward to working closely with JFJV2 to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operations and support LNG Canada throughout the facility’s lifecycle.”
