The Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant of Bahia (FAFEN-BA) is in the final stages of maintenance and gearing up to restart production in January 2026.

Commissioning is already underway, with teams aligning critical utilities — including nitrogen, compressed air, and cooling water — to test systems and equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient return to operations.

Securing natural gas, a key raw material for ammonia and urea production, is a top priority. Petrobras and Bahiagás have recently formalized a contract to transport 1.2 million m³/day of piped gas to FAFEN-BA, supporting the plant’s full resumption.

“The resumption of fertilizer production at FAFEN-BA will contribute to recovering the national capacity for strategic inputs for agribusiness, expanding Petrobras' portfolio and guaranteeing a profitable alternative for the consumption of natural gas produced in Brazil,” said William França, Director of Industrial Processes and Products at Petrobras.

Once operational, FAFEN-BA will produce ammonia, pearl urea, and ARLA-32. The facility will also utilize the Ammonia and Urea Maritime Terminals at the Port of Aratu, in Candeias (BA), for product handling.
