1 dead, 12 ill after toxic gas leak at Gujarat chemical plant

A toxic gas leak at the Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd. (GFL) in Ranjitnagar,Ghoghamba taluka of Panchmahal district, Gujarat, resulted in one death left 12 workers hospitalised.

The incident occurred around 12:00 to 12:30 pm when R-32 gas, refrigerant commonly used in air conditioners, escaped from a pipeline inside the plant. Soon after, several workers began experiencing nausea, dizziness, and vomiting.

The company’s health team immediately provided antidotes and arranged transportation to hospitals in Halol. Emergency sprinklers and systems were activated promptly, and the leak was contained within 15–20 seconds. As a precaution, the entire plant was shut down. Police and Health Department officials confirmed that no explosion had taken place, only a sudden gas leak.

Despite prompt intervention, one worker died due to the gas exposure.
