Chimanlal K Mehta, Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Deepak Group departed peacefully for his heavenly abode today morning. It is going to be a great loss for the Indian chemical industry. A visionary philanthropist and a business leader, Mehta touched millions of lives with his love, affection, humanity, and vision.

Hailing from Amreli, Gujarat, the humble origins of Mehta kept him deeply connected to the common man. With over five decades of versatile experience in chemical trade and industry, Mehta is a first-generation entrepreneur. He leveraged his skills in trading and manufacturing to set up Deepak Nitrite in 1971.

He is credited with leading an able Board and laying the foundation of a strong professionally driven organisation on principles of deep-rooted values and commitment to excellence and Responsible Chemistry. Even as the next generation leads the organisation, he continued to provide the overall strategic business direction to Deepak Group.

His aspiration to usher a social change inspired Deepak to look beyond business needs. He has been instrumental in initiating many CSR initiatives and in establishing Deepak Foundation that has in the last 40 years, since its inception, touched the lives of over 2 million people across the nation through grassroot work in areas of health, education, social welfare, disability and special need, skill building and livelihood.

Mehta’s mantra of ‘Nation Building by serving the society’ lives on as he continues to shine and guide the industry and the Deepak Group as we remember his illustrious life filled with inspirational moments.

We, at Indian Chemical News, are saddened to learn the sad demise of Mehta. A doyen of Indian chemical industry, he was passionate about his responsibilites and priorities. His career reflected the rise and innate strength of the Indian chemical industry. ICN extends its hearfelt condolences to his family and each and every one in Deepak Group.
