Evonik has inaugurated its state-of-the-art fumed alumina production facility, “Alu5,” in Yokkaichi, Japan, marking a major milestone in the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence and capabilities in Asia. This mid-double-digit million-euro investment demonstrates Evonik’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, supply security, and customer proximity in one of the world’s most dynamic growth regions.

“The launch of our Alu5 plant represents more than just an expansion of production capacity; it is a strategic move to bring our high-performance aluminum oxide solutions closer to our customers in Asia,” said Emmanuel Auer, Head of Evonik’s Smart Effects business line. Elias Lacerda, Head of Evonik’s Coating Additives business line, added that the facility enables faster and more efficient access to key materials that power industries such as battery technologies and advanced coatings, supporting their transformation today and into the future.

The new plant produces Aeroxide, Evonik’s advanced fumed aluminum oxide known for its exceptional quality and performance across a wide range of applications. Aeroxide enhances the efficiency, durability, and sustainability of products used in electromobility, lithium-ion batteries, consumer electronics, and high-performance coatings. By promoting long-lasting, resource-efficient solutions, the product contributes to lower environmental impact and supports the global shift toward cleaner technologies.

Claus Rettig, President of Evonik Asia Pacific, emphasized the importance of the new facility for the region’s growth, stating that Alu5 is a cornerstone of Evonik’s Asian growth strategy. By manufacturing locally, the company reduces lead times and carbon emissions while strengthening supply chain reliability and reinforcing long-term partnerships with regional customers.

Equipped with the latest production technology, the Alu5 facility sets new standards for quality, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
