ExxonMobil rockets to $15.4 billion net profit in Q3 2026

Advantaged investments, technology, and $16.9 billion in structural cost savings since 2019 are expanding our earnings power

Energy behemoth ExxonMobil reported a massive surge in its third-quarter 2026 financial results, posting a net profit that more than doubled from the same period last year. The company capitalised on record-breaking refining utilization and major international production milestones.

For the quarter ending September 30, 2026, ExxonMobil delivered U.S. GAAP earnings of $15.4 billion, or $3.72 per share, up sharply from $7.5 billion in Q3 2025. Adjusted non-GAAP earnings reached $17.5 billion, translating to $4.23 per share—beating Wall Street expectations of $3.99 per share. Total revenue hit $110.5 billion, representing a 32.6% year-over-year increase.

The blockbusting performance was primarily driven by the company’s Energy Products refining segment, where adjusted profits soared to $9.1 billion, up from $4.1 billion in the second quarter. U.S. Gulf Coast refineries ramped up to maximize output amid global fuel market disruptions. Concurrently, ExxonMobil's Upstream division reached key cumulative milestones, crossing 1 billion barrels of production at both its Guyana and Kearl operations.

"In the third quarter, we continued to rise to the challenge of meeting global energy needs, drawing on unmatched scale, integration, and technical capabilities,” said Darren Woods, ExxonMobil Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

“We're increasing production while improving efficiency - the result of years of consistent and disciplined investment and execution excellence. On the U.S. Gulf Coast, investments such as our Beaumont refinery expansion have contributed to an increase in our distillate production by approximately 40% since 2019."

"Quarter after quarter, the evidence of a stronger business builds. We're improving both the quality of our portfolio and the ability to optimize around it. Advantaged investments, technology, and $16.9 billion in structural cost savings since 2019 are expanding our earnings power. These are lasting improvements, not simply the result of favorable prices and margins. Markets will change, but we're positioned to continue supplying the energy and products the world needs while delivering growth in long-term value for our shareholders."

Supported by $25.7 billion in cash flow from operations, the Texas-based titan rewarded its investors heavily. Shareholder distributions totaled $9.4 billion for the quarter, including $4.3 billion in dividends and $5.1 billion in stock buybacks. Furthermore, ExxonMobil raised its quarterly dividend by 4% to $1.07 per share, extending its industry-leading dividend annual increase streak to 44 consecutive years. Looking ahead, management expressed robust confidence in its long-term cash generation by announcing a staggering $20 billion share repurchase program intended for 2027.
