Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation has announced that it signed an "Agreement on Coordination and Cooperation for the Maintenance and Development of the Yokkaichi Industrial Complex" with Mie Prefecture and Yokkaichi City on August 12, 2025, the aim of which is to utilize the industrial complex to help bring about a carbon-neutral society.

Mie Prefecture and Yokkaichi City formulated a future vision in March 2023 seeking to make the Yokkaichi Industrial Complex carbon neutral by 2050. The Yokkaichi Industrial Complex Carbon Neutralization Promotion Committee is conducting feasibility studies on turning the complex into a hydrogen and ammonia supply base, producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and diesel fuel from waste cooking oil and other resources, and advancing next-generation hydrogen mobility.

Located within the Yokkaichi Industrial Complex, Mitsubishi Chemical’s Tokai Plant (with locations in Shiohama, Kawajiri, and Obata) is also participating in these studies as a member of the Promotion Committee, leading the company to conclude this agreement.
