NRL can now make larger investment decisions without requiring prior government approval
Assam-based Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has been granted Navratna status - a major milestone that enhances its operational autonomy and strengthens India's refining and energy infrastructure.
NRL has officially been granted "Navratna" status, becoming the 27th Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) in India to receive this distinction.
The upgrade from Miniratna status recognizes NRL's strong financial performance and ambitious expansion plans, including the ongoing project to triple its refinery capacity from 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 9 MMTPA.
The primary benefit of Navratna status is greater operational and financial autonomy. NRL can now make larger investment decisions (up to Rs. 1,000 crore per project) without requiring prior government approval, enabling faster project implementation and growth.
