Solvay and CERN announce the opening of applications for the second edition of the CERN-Solvay student camps, an integral part of their three-year partnership program. These residential camps provide a unique opportunity for high-school students aged 16 and above to delve into the fascinating world of science, exploring the groundbreaking research conducted at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics. This collaboration is a vital component of Solvay’s corporate citizenship program, committed to fostering STEM education worldwide.

Scheduled to unfold from May 25 to June 1, 2024, and from October 5 to October 12, 2024, each CERN-Solvay student camp will provide a week-long immersive experience for 30 international students. These camps will encompass a variety of engaging activities.

Philippe Kehren, Solvay CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the second edition of the CERN-Solvay student camps, stating, "We are excited to launch the second edition of the CERN-Solvay student camps, offering young minds a unique opportunity to explore the frontiers of particle physics at CERN. These camps aim to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers and nurture a passion for discovery and innovation."

Fabiola Gianotti, CERN Director-General, added, "The CERN-Solvay student camps play an important role in nurturing the scientific curiosity of young minds. This project with Solvay underscores CERN’s commitment to creating a global community of passionate individuals dedicated to advancing science, a mission CERN carries out in collaboration with institutions in its Member States and beyond, and which is now expanding thanks to the new CERN Science Gateway."

To qualify for the CERN-Solvay student camps, applicants must have a digital certificate indicating completion of the CERN-Solvay Education Program online course, possess proficient English skills, and be at least 16 years old while enrolled in high school during the application period. Applications for the camps are open until January 15, 2024, and students can apply for one or both camps according to their preference. The outcome of applications will be communicated on March 1, 2024.

Participation in the camps is free, covering accommodation and meals. However, selected students are responsible for independently arranging and finance their travel to and from CERN. Funds are available to provide travel grants for a select number of students.
