Syensqo, a leading global provider of high-performance materials and chemical solutions, announced that its AvaSpire Polyarylether ketone (PAEK) compounds have been selected by Uniwell Rohrsysteme for use in corrugated flexible tubes designed for plumbing and sanitary applications, with or without external hose reinforcement.

In a major commercial milestone for the domestic plumbing pipes and lining market, Uniwell Rohrsysteme is utilizing Syensqo’s AvaSpire PAEK to produce armature connection hoses for Grohe bathroom and kitchen faucet systems. This collaboration delivers a cost-effective, high-performance solution offering exceptional durability, ductility, and safety.

“With our innovative flex hose design, we are addressing key manufacturing, installation, and regulatory challenges. AvaSpire PAEK from Syensqo proved to be the ideal material choice for this application, helping us streamline production, simplify handling, and replace conventional brass,” said Hans-Peter Meyer, Product Manager at Uniwell Rohrsysteme Germany.

The new Uniwell flexible hose is produced using extruded PAEK tube segments that are cut to length in a continuous process, eliminating the need for additional manufacturing steps. Compared to brass, AvaSpire PAEK significantly reduces the risk of lead contamination in water pipe installations and provides excellent long-term creep resistance.

“AvaSpire PAEK fills a critical cost-to-performance gap compared to other high-performance polymers. Depending on the grade, it offers superior ductility, creep resistance, and property retention at elevated temperatures,” said Esther Villena, Construction Market Manager for Syensqo Specialty Polymers.

AvaSpire PAEK grades for flexible hose applications in plumbing and sanitary systems are commercially available worldwide and carry relevant potable water certifications across multiple regions. Beyond plumbing, potential applications include flushing cisterns, heat pumps, boilers, and solar heat system connections.
