Ansaldo Green Tech completes 300 MW electrolyser production line in Genoa

Ansaldo Green Tech has completed a new high-volume production line for AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) electrolyser stacks at its Genoa facility in Italy, with annual production capacity exceeding 300 MW.
The new line marks a major step in the industrialisation of Ansaldo Green Tech’s electrolyser technology and strengthens the Ansaldo Energia Group’s industrial presence in emerging energy technologies, as Europe accelerates efforts to build out its hydrogen value chain.
The facility is part of the “Turnkey Electrochemical Plants for H2 Production” project, backed by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the European IPCEI Hydrogen programme.
The wider initiative is supported by more than €300 million in public funding for the development and industrial production of AEM electrolysers and is also expected to create significant employment opportunities across the Ansaldo Energia Group.
Ansaldo Green Tech’s proprietary AEM technology is designed to work alongside renewable power generation, adapting dynamically to fluctuations in electricity supply while producing pressurised hydrogen.
Its modular portfolio spans solutions from a 1 MW containerised system capable of producing around 500 kg of hydrogen per day to multi-megawatt systems designed for large-scale industrial applications. The company said the open-design architecture is intended to support the deployment of green hydrogen across energy-intensive industries.

Commissioning and optimisation work will continue in the coming months, with industrial production set to follow once the activities are completed.
The Genoa facility positions Ansaldo Green Tech to scale domestic electrolyser manufacturing as Europe seeks to expand its green hydrogen production capacity and strengthen the industrial base supporting the energy transition.
