INEOS Inovyn has completed the acquisition of the remaining 50% shareholding in Runcorn MCP Limited, together with the assets and employees associated with ethylene dichloride production at Runcorn from Vynova Runcorn Limited, following its entry into administration in 2025.

The deal fully integrates the chlor-alkali and EDC value chain under INEOS Inovyn. By bringing these businesses together, INEOS Inovyn strengthens the long-term future of the site and its skilled workforce, while enhancing security of supply for customers.

Stephen Dossett, CEO of INEOS Inovyn, said: “Securing Runcorn’s asset, which is the last in the UK, from closure is an important step in strengthening the UK’s national resilience. But we need the Government to step up and play its part.

"British chemicals manufacturers need a level playing field: cheaper energy, lower carbon and compliance costs, and urgent trade protection. Otherwise, we risk becoming dependent on imports for essential chemicals, from the salt and chlorine that help keep our drinking water safe to the materials used to build our homes and support critical manufacturing.”

Around 98% of the chlorine used in drinking water treatment is supplied by Runcorn, highlighting the site’s critical importance to public health and national infrastructure.

The acquisition represents an important step in safeguarding the continuity of strategically critical chlor-alkali operations in the UK. These products are essential for safe drinking water and food manufacturing, and support a wide range of industries including pharmaceuticals, healthcare and construction. Strengthening the UK’s chlor-alkali industry is vital to the country’s strategic autonomy and national resilience.
