Swiss construction chemicals and adhesives group Sika has agreed to acquire the adhesives business of Japan-based chemical company Resonac Corporation, in a move aimed at expanding its reach in Asia’s automotive and industrial markets.

The business develops, manufactures and sells a broad range of adhesive technologies, primarily serving automotive customers across Asia. The acquisition will give Sika access to established customer relationships, manufacturing facilities and sales networks in Japan, China and Taiwan.

The deal is expected to strengthen Sika’s ties with key suppliers to Japanese automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), while expanding its ability to serve major customers globally. The complementary technology portfolios are also expected to open up new opportunities in automotive interior applications.

Resonac’s adhesives business brings decades of experience in industrial bonding, with a particularly strong position in interior assembly bonding for the automotive sector. Its established reputation and long-standing customer relationships across Asia will provide Sika with an expanded platform for growth.

Sika expects the acquisition to generate cross-selling opportunities by combining Resonac’s specialised adhesive technologies with its own global reach and technical expertise. The integration is also expected to strengthen product offerings across automotive and industrial applications.

The companies’ complementary manufacturing footprints could deliver further benefits, with Sika aiming to build a more integrated production network to serve customers across the Asia/Pacific region more efficiently and generate cost synergies.

The acquisition will also strengthen Sika’s position in Taiwan, where the acquired business has an established customer base and market presence.

Sika sees this as an opportunity to expand into battery solutions and other high-value market segments, supporting the company’s push to extend its innovative solutions into new applications.

Philippe Jost, Sika Regional Manager Asia/Pacific, said: “This acquisition will strengthen our adhesives business in Asia and expand our ability to serve key customers with a broader range of innovative solutions. The strong alignment of technologies and customer relationships will create significant cross-selling opportunities, driving additional growth as well as efficiencies. We are looking forward to welcoming the new team to the Sika family and are excited to develop our business together in the future.”
