Prof. G. D. Yadav appointed to key national leadership roles, honoured with prestigious award
Prof. (Dr.) Ganapati D. Yadav, Former Vice-Chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) Mumbai, Bhatnagar Fellow, National Science Chair, and Padma Shri awardee, and Chairman of BOG, LITU, Nagpur has been entrusted with several prestigious responsibilities and recognitions, underscoring his stature as one of India’s most accomplished scientists.
The Government of India has appointed Prof. Yadav as the Chairman of the Governing Body of the S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, a premier institution dedicated to advancing fundamental research.
In addition, the Indian Chemical Council (ICC) has conferred the K. V. Mariwala Award for Effective Chemical Industry–Academia Partnership (2024) jointly to Godavari Biorefineries Ltd. and ICT Mumbai. This honour specifically recognizes the breakthrough development of Dimethyl Ether (DME) technology from renewable feedstocks, achieved through collaborative research led by Prof. Yadav in partnership with Godavari Biorefineries.
Further, NITI Aayog has appointed Prof. Yadav as the Chairman of its Working Group, where his leadership is expected to provide strategic vision in steering India towards a bio-based, circular, and sustainable economy.
Speaking on his appointment, Prof. Yadav said: “I am honoured to chair this Working Group of NITI Aayog. India stands at a critical juncture where science, technology, and policy must converge to build a bio-based, circular, and sustainable economy. I look forward to contributing to this national mission.”
With over 570 publications, 137 patents, and mentorship of 116 Ph.D. scholars, Prof. Yadav has been consistently ranked as the #1 scientist in India and Number 66 in the world in Physical Chemistry and among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University surveys for five consecutive years. His rare election to the US National Academy of Engineering and the US National Academy of Inventors further highlights his global standing.
These appointments and recognitions reaffirm Prof. Yadav’s pioneering role in advancing green chemistry, catalysis, biomass valorization, green hydrogen, CO₂ refineries, and waste-to-wealth technologies, while strengthening the bridge between academia, industry, and policy.
