Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (CFCL)
has proposed to put up Brown-field expansion ammonia, urea CFG3 project at
Gadepan in Rajasthan?s Kota district and has requested the Environment and
Forest Ministry for amendment in the environmental clearance.
Environmental clearance was accorded in 2010 to the company?s CFG3 project for
2000 MTPD ammonia plant and 3500 MTPD single train urea plant with annual
capacities as 690000 MTPA ammonia and 1200000 MTPA urea.
CFCL has now requested for amendment in EC to include the following capacities:
Ammonia plant: 2200 MTPD
Urea plant: 4000 MTPD
Power generation: 18 MW
Heat recovery steam generation: 100 TPH
The estimated cost for the proposed project is approximately Rs 4000 crore. The
CFCL plant occupies a total land area of 400 hectares.
The reasons the firm gave for the amendment are:
1. Ammonia process licensors offering 2200 MTPD plant size, 2200 MTPD plant size
shall be the most economic size as being offered to all Indian projects under
development stage.
2. Carbon dioxide produced from 2200 MTPD ammonia plant is equivalent to 3850
MTPD urea. Since 3850 MTPD urea plant in single train configuration does not
have any operating reference, CFCL proposes to select proven 2000 MTPD urea
train x 2 trains configuration.
3. 2 train urea plant configuration shall additionally facilitate compliance to
MoEF specific condition.
The company said since ammonia, urea production are increasing, gaseous
emissions are increasing on pro-rata basis. ?However, no increase is expected in
gaseous emissions per tonne of respective product,? it said.
