Megi Agro wants to set up grain-based distillery unit

Megi Agro Chem Ltd has approached the Ministry of Environment and Forests seeking environmental clearance for setting up a grain-based distillery unit at Sadgaon in Maharashtra's Dhule district.

Megi Agro Chem Ltd has approached the Ministry of Environment and Forests seeking environmental clearance for setting up a grain-based distillery unit at Sadgaon in Maharashtra?s Dhule district.

The proposed products that the company is wiling to produce are 900 KLPM of extra neutral alcohol (ENA), 952 KLPM of rectified spirit, and 49 KLPM of impure spirit.

The company said that alcohol has assumed a very important place in the country?s economy and it is a vital raw material for a number of chemicals.

The total land of the project 65 acres, of which 4.32 acres is reserved for greenbelt development.

The company said it will invest Rs 36.65 crore for the project.

The company said there are no natural forest blocks in the area and also no ecologically sensitive areas like national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, coral formations or biosphere reserves with 10 km radius of the proposed site.

Also there are no archaeological monuments within the 10-km radius.

On environmental management plan, the company said emissions from coal-fired boilers will be checked by installation of bag filters and stack with adequate height.

The proposed project envisages activities like land development, construction of buildings and installation of machinery. The company said the EIA will address all these activities and assess cumulative impact associated with establishment of proposed project.

The socio-economic benefits arising out of the project for the local population will include creation of direct and indirect jobs and consequent rise in the income levels, associated commercial and social infrastructure development in the areas.
