The Local Project Advisory Committee (LPAC) for
the study on 'Technology Support Services in SEZs', sponsored by the Department
of Science and Technology, has suggested several measures for the chemical
sector to sensitize the stakeholders and prepare an action plan on how to go
further.
During a recent meeting of the LPAC, the members decided on the following four
measures for the chemical sector:
1. Technical support services ? tie-up with a nearby institute or
laboratory may be explored.
2. In the report, the SEZs may be grouped based on whether they set up in
?Pre-SEZ Act? or ?Post SEZ Act?.
3. Functions of ?technology facilitation centre? should be elaborated.
4. A table may be included in the report, containing the name of the unit,
turnover and investments made by it.
The draft report was approved in principle by the LPAC and they advised that the
draft report may be given to the Department of Science and Technology for its
observation and comments.
The report may be finalised and submitted to the Department of Science and
Technology after incorporating the suggestions made by Department of Science and
Technology and LPAC members, it was decided.
