Supreme Petrochem in expansion mode

The first phase of the Mass ABS project has a capacity of 70,000 MTPA which is expected to be completed by March 2025

Supreme Petrochem Limited (SPL), India’s largest producer of Polystyrene & Expandable Polystyrene is setting up a Mass ABS Project and enhancing Compounds and Masterbatches and EPS capacities at its Amdoshi plant.   

The company is setting up a Mass ABS Project of 140,000 MTPA at Amdoshi plant in two phases of 70,000 MTPA each. The first phase of the Mass ABS project has a capacity of 70,000 MTPA which is expected to be completed by March 2025.

Mass ABS process is clean and environmentally friendly compared to conventional emulsion process, due to elimination of water pollution. The company has entered into an agreement for license and basic engineering design with Versalis-Eni Chemicals Group for Phase I. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 850 crores for both the phases.

The company is also undertaking Capex for enhancing Compounds and Masterbatches and EPS capacities at its Amdoshi plant to cater to the additional demand.

The company has also acquired 96 acres of land at village Munak, Tehisil-Ballah, District Karnal, Haryana to set up a facility to manufacture Polystyrene and Expandable Polystyrene and Derivative components of PS, EPS, 3D Panels, PS sheeting Lines in phases over 36 to 48 months post receipt of statutory clearances at an estimated cost of Rs. 800 crores to be funded from internal generation.

SPL was formed as joint venture between the Supreme Industries Ltd. and Rajan Raheja Group. The company commenced operations in 1995 with a 66,000 MTA Polystyrene plant located in Amdoshi, Maharashtra. Its Amdoshi plant has grown into a 422,000 MTA styrenics complex, producing a range of advanced materials, including: Polystyrene, Expandable Polystyrene (EPS), Specialty Compounds & Masterbatches, Extruded Polystyrene Insulation Board (XPS).

The company operates India’s first and only plant of Extruded Polystyrene Insulation Foam Board (XPS) reinforcing its leadership role in promoting the green building movement. This initiative supports energy-efficient construction and helps reduce carbon emissions.

First phase of Mass ABS project and EPS Phase II expansion when completed will take overall capacity at Amdoshi complex to 522,000 MTA. SPL operates a second EPS manufacturing plant at Manali New Township, located near Chennai with a capacity of 33,000 MTA.

In line with its commitment to sustainability, SPL has also setup a 12.5 MW solar power plant in joint venture with Tata Renewable Energy Ltd. to reduce its reliance on conventional energy sources.
