Odisha is showcasing its growing potential in the chemical and petrochemical sector at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai. The state's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is attending the event to meet representatives from more than 20 major companies, participate in the inaugural session, and join a CEO Roundtable chaired by Union Minister J. P. Nadda.

Odisha will showcase its robust industrial infrastructure, progressive policies, and rapidly expanding chemical and petrochemical ecosystem. The program offers a premier platform for the state to connect with industry leaders, pitch fresh investment opportunities, and build strategic partnerships for its next phase of growth.

During the visit, the Chief Minister will hold one-on-one meetings with top executives from over 20 major chemical and petrochemical companies. These discussions will focus on securing investments, driving industrial expansion, boosting downstream manufacturing, and exploring opportunities to launch new ventures in Odisha.

Odisha will highlight its emerging coal gasification project as a key industrial opportunity during the event. To further strengthen its industrial ecosystem and drive value addition, the State may also announce a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park designed to attract major investments across the chemical, petrochemical, plastic, and packaging sectors.

Odisha is positioning itself as a leading investment destination in the chemical and petrochemical sector, leveraging its rich resource base, industrial infrastructure, and supportive policy framework. The State’s established strengths in mining and metallurgy provide a strong foundation for expanding into downstream chemical and petrochemical industries, promoting value addition, and attracting investments in higher-value manufacturing.

Over the last two years, Odisha has continued to strengthen its position as an emerging industrial destination, focusing on attracting investments, accelerating project implementation, and creating employment opportunities. In the chemical and petrochemical sector, the State has attracted 56 companies, representing proposed investments of Rs. 1,93,087.94 crore and an employment potential of 1,12,324 people.

As part of its industrial development efforts, 27 projects in the sector have been grounded or inaugurated, representing investments of Rs. 60,825.34 crore and an employment potential of 35,351 people. These developments reflect the State Government’s commitment to translating investment commitments into industrial activity, strengthening manufacturing capabilities, and expanding employment opportunities.

Speaking about Odisha’s participation at India Chem 2026, Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, Home and Information & Public Relations Departments, Government of Odisha, said, “Odisha has a strong industrial foundation, and we are now focused on expanding our presence in high-potential sectors such as chemicals and petrochemicals. Our participation at India Chem 2026 will provide an opportunity to engage directly with leading companies, present the State’s investment opportunities and explore partnerships for future growth. With our industrial infrastructure, progressive policies and resource advantages, we are working to build a competitive ecosystem for chemical and petrochemical industries. The proposed dedicated large chemical industrial park and our focus on coal gasification will further strengthen this effort and open up new avenues for investment, value addition and employment generation.”

He also noted that the recent inauguration and groundbreaking ceremonies in Jajpur underscore the rapid expansion of Odisha's chemical and petrochemical industries. Out of 53 sector projects, nine—consisting of five launches and four groundbreakings—account for a Rs. 4,136 crore investment and are set to create 1,508 jobs. These initiatives represent a major step forward in boosting the state's manufacturing power and industrial ecosystem.
