Coveris Winsford secures dual RecyClass certifications for recycling excellence

The Traceability Certification strengthens Coveris’ ability to comply with regulatory requirements such as the UK Plastic Packaging Tax

Coveris Winsford has achieved two Level 2 certifications from RecyClass—the Recycling Process Certificate and the Recycled Plastics Traceability Certificate—demonstrating the site’s leadership in advancing plastic circularity and meeting the highest mandatory and optional audit criteria.

RecyClass, a cross-industry initiative in Europe, recognises companies that implement best-in-class processes to support the transition toward a more transparent and circular plastics value chain.

The Recycling Process Certification confirms that Coveris Winsford reliably transforms both post-industrial and post-consumer plastic waste into high-quality recycled materials, forming the foundation of a certified chain of custody.

Sujoy Bose, Managing Director at Coveris Winsford, noted that achieving two Level 2 certifications reinforces the company’s position as a leading producer of high-performance flexible plastic packaging with verified recycled content. “These certifications confirm the integrity of our recycling and traceability processes and demonstrate our commitment to helping customers meet their sustainability targets. They also reflect our dedication to Coveris’ No Waste strategy and to closing the loop within plastic packaging,” he said.

Sarah Willis, Quality Improvement Manager at Coveris, highlighted the importance of third-party validation: “The RecyClass certifications provide independent confirmation that our use of recycled materials meets a high industry standard. The rigorous annual audit process encourages continuous improvement by ensuring that our procedures and quality systems are regularly reviewed and refined. Achieving this level of certification is a significant team accomplishment, and credit goes to everyone involved.”

The Traceability Certification strengthens Coveris’ ability to comply with regulatory requirements such as the UK Plastic Packaging Tax, the forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and emerging legislation across Europe. It also supports increasing customer demand for transparent documentation on the journey from post-industrial or post-consumer film to recycled pellet. In response to this growing need, additional Coveris sites across Europe are scheduled to pursue similar certifications next year.
