The Session on Sustainable Agriculture, Climate Change and its Impact on Agrochemicals will have Prof. Baishnab Charan Tripathy, J. C. Bose National Fellow, School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Dr. Shailendra Singh, Chief Operating Officer - Agribusiness, Zydex Industries Pvt. Ltd.; Mr. Mithilesh Kumar, Associate Director, Accenture Technology; and Mr. Murari Mohan Jha, Editor, Indian Chemical News as speakers.
Sustainable agriculture and climate change are two interlinked challenges that significantly impact the agrochemicals sector. The future of agriculture, including how crops are grown and pests managed, is evolving in response to both environmental sustainability goals and the realities of a changing climate.
Climate change is leading to altered rainfall patterns, increased temperatures, and more frequent extreme weather events. Warmer temperatures may expand the range and life cycle of pests and diseases that affect crops, resulting in higher incidence and severity of infestations. This may increase the demand for agrochemicals.
As sustainability becomes a key focus, the agrochemical sector is shifting towards Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices that reduce reliance on synthetic chemicals. IPM combines biological control, habitat manipulation, and resistant crop varieties to manage pest populations sustainably. As the industry adapts to environmental challenges and shifting consumer preferences, it will need to prioritize sustainability while continuing to meet global food production demands.
Embracing innovative practices, developing less harmful products, and promoting responsible use of agrochemicals will be key to achieving a sustainable agricultural future. Balancing productivity with environmental stewardship will ensure the long-term viability of both agriculture and the agrochemical sector in the face of climate change.
Key points to be discussed during the Session are: Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture; Transition to Sustainable Agriculture; Biological and Biopesticide Development; Stricter Regulations and Sustainability Certifications; Innovative Solutions and Biotechnology Advances; Cost of Transition and Market Opportunities; Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing; and Future Outlook.
