Speciality materials company Arkema has significantly expanded its sustainability footprint, adding 10 coating solutions production sites to its ISCC PLUS–certified network in 2025. The move brings more than 70% of the Group’s global coating facilities under the certification, marking a major milestone in its transition toward low-carbon, bio-attributed materials.
The newly certified sites span Arkema’s full coatings portfolio, including advanced liquid and waterborne resins, rheology and specialty additives, powder resins, UV/LED/EB technologies, and acrylic monomers. With this expanded footprint, Arkema can now offer a broad range of bio-attributed solutions delivering a product carbon footprint reduction of at least 20% compared with fossil-based alternatives.
The certification push strengthens Arkema’s ability to support customers developing more sustainable coatings and adhesives for applications ranging from energy and infrastructure efficiency to e-mobility, urbanization, new technologies, and living comfort.
"Our approach to certification has been methodical and strategically aligned in those areas where will have the greatest positive impact across the value chain.
"Today, we have achieved ISCC PLUS certification across our global network for a wide range of coating technologies, from monomers to advanced resins and specialty additives.
"This ensures that customers worldwide now have access to bio-attributed grades that help them significantly reduce their product carbon footprint and accelerate their sustainability goals," said Richard Jenkins, Senior Vice-President Coating Solutions and Global President.
Beyond certification, Arkema Coating Solutions in 2025 also rolled out a series of partnerships and cooperative initiatives across the value chain, working with suppliers, distributors, formulators, and end users to drive both near- and long-term reductions in the carbon footprint of coatings and related products.
“We believe the only way the industry reaches the goals we have set for ourselves is to work together” Jenkins said.
“Innovation at the raw material level only works if it matches the efforts at the formulator – and even end user – levels. Arkema has been very successful in finding upstream and downstream partners who understand that way of thinking – and who are working with us to make the changes needed.”
